The Dragon Hotel’s Directors, Management and Staff were delighted to receive The Best Large Hotel award at the bi-annual Swansea Bay Tourism Awards held at The Brangwyn Hall on Thursday, 20th November. The evening was perfected with the 4 star independent city centre hotel collecting a second award, this time for demonstrating a willingness to co-operate with others for the greater benefit of the wider Swansea Bay and regional visitor economy.
In a glitzy affair of 400 people the tourism, leisure and hospitality industry of the Swansea Bay region celebrated the best in the trade. With fourteen different awards ranging from Outstanding Services to Tourism to Best Sustainable Tourism Business, each category not only merited an outright winner but also several highly commended entrants from very diverse trade businesses within the area.
The short list for The Best Large Hotel Award also included Swansea Village Hotel, Swansea Marriott Hotel, Best Western Aberavon Beach Hotel, Morgans Hotel and Towers Hotel.
Cath Garcia, Deputy General Manager of The Dragon Hotel says of these accolades: ‘We may be a large hotel but at heart we are a small family and our success is owed to the close-knit nature of the team and their hard work and co-operation. It is a privilege to be recognised by our contemporaries for the work we do to promote the region; indeed the wealth of services Swansea Bay has to offer makes promoting the area almost an obligation – it would be wrong of us not to shout about the region’s riches.’
Both other entrants in the Co-operating to Compete Award, Call of the Wild and Afan Forest Park were highly commended for similar efforts.
In the words of event organisers Tourism Swansea Bay: Together we can show that Swansea Bay has the potential to become the best tourist destination in Wales.
