Seasons Greetings!!

Seasons Greetings to All!!

Well it’s Christmas time once again and the air in Swansea is filled with the ringing of shop tills and jingling with excitement as people go about their Christmas shopping.

Here at the Dragon Hotel we are in full swing with parties and festive food on the menu….as office workers embrace the spirit of the season by consuming vast quantities of well the spirits of the season (and beer)

The accounts office is full of festive fun as they argue over whose turn it is to open the advent calendar and they sing along at their desks to the old Christmas classics! The Conference staff are busy making sure all the parties and events go with a bang and by the time the festive functions are over they will be all Christmased out!! From the Kitchen and the Brasserie drift the lovely smells of Christmas dinner and pudding interspersed with the dulcet tones of Chef Steve shouting instructions to his team!

On behalf of all the Management Team and Staff here at the Dragon Hotel, I would like to thank you for your valued custom and services and wish you a very Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year!!

Festive Food & Frivolity!

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the Dragon Hotel delighful! The Brasserie is the place to go…please don’t snow, please don’t snow, please don’t snow!

With the Christmas party season now in full swing, the hotel is buzzing with activity.. the trees are trimmed, the lights are flashing and the kitchen is place of oganised chaos and beautiful aromas!

Head Chef Steve is doing his best Gordon Ramsey impersonation as he barks orders out to his ’little helpers’ and Pastry chef Hayley is concocting the most delicious desserts you could imagine, from your traditional Christmas pud to Orange Parfait with Clementine Compote with Chestnut shortbread! Mouthwateringly good!

So if you fancy some festive fun, or just a traditional Christmas dinner, come along to the hotel and sample the delights we have to offer!

Team Member of the Month – Tanisha Williams

Festive Greetings avid readers!!

We are once again honouring a team member..the one person that has stood out as contributing that little bit extra, and I am delighted to announce that the winner of this pretegious accolade is once again the lovely Tanisha Williams – Conference & Banqueting Supervisor!

Tanisha Williams team member of the month for November

Tanisha is one of our long serving employees and works tirelessly along side the Conference & Banqueting Manager Antonio, making sure that everyone attending functions, be it Birthday party, wedding reception, hen night etc has the very best of service.  Her attention to detail is seconf to none!  Her favourite time of the year at the hotel is trimming up ready for Christmas and it’s fair to say that there is never a bauble out of place or a piece of tinsel trailing!  So once again join me in a celebratory toast to Tanisha…may your Christmas lights glow brightly and your festive functions go with a bang!

T’was the night before Monday!

T’was the night before Monday and all through the house,a creature was stirring, and it wasn’t a mouse.

His treat stick was finished and hung up with care, and he hoped that she’d notice and more would appear,

but mummy was nestled all snug in her bed, while visions of Starbucks did dance in her head.

Cwtched in her duvet, alarm stuck on snooze,

she tried to fend off the old Monday blues.

In a house in Bridgend another was waking, and three little children had just started shaking,

A glare from her eyes and a shake of her head, was enough to fill them with horror and dread,

She shouted instructions and gripes from the kitchen,

Oh come on, get moving your bedrooms need blitzen,

So up to the house tops in fear they flew, to tidy and dress and be ready for school.

From a house set in Swansea, another did stir, still half asleep and eyes all a blur,

She sipped on a cuppa and then pulled a face, to the bus stop she legged it at quite a fast pace,

Her thoughts filled with figures and numbers to crunch and dreading the milkshake for breakfast and lunch,

the pressure was on to process the wages, her PC was poorly and loading took ages,

her brow was all furrowed from the effort she made, but proudly announced that we all would be paid!!

So you readers I give you this gift of insight, into the lives of us workers on site,

As we forge ever onward to finish each task, in the shadow of this mighty building we bask, with figures and paperwork bravely we fight, happy Monday to all and to all a goodnight!!

Ho Ho Ho!

Ho Ho Ho!

Visiting friends or relatives over the festive season this year? Why not take the stress out of it all and relax at The Dragon Hotel at our special festive rates. This Christmas our landmark, city centre hotel, has put two together these two fine offers:

Catching up with the Culinary Team!

The whole team at The Dragon wish Chef Sam Thomas, who’s served us well for the last 6 years, the best of luck and success with his new venture – the kitchen certainly won’t be the same without him! But there’s no fear as long suffering Chef Steve Williams is stepping up to spearhead the culinary operations with support from Chefs Kevin Wingrave and Hayley James.

Local lad Chef Steve is no stranger to life at The Dragon Hotel having been here for well over a decade masterminding thousands of Christmas Parties, Weddings and Dinner Dances. Not easily flustered, Steve takes everything in his stride and likes nothing better than to unwind with a few cans of cider over a fishing rod.

Kevin Wingrave could easily have been lost to the culinary world if he had stuck to his first career choice of carpentry. A few too many splinters made Kevlar decide to swap his wood chips for potato chips and Swansea Bay has now sampled his cooking at both Morgans Hotel and 698 prior to his arrival at The Dragon in 2005.

Chef Hayley James is by far the prettiest of The Dragon Hotel’s culinary team and has known Kevin since they attended Neath Port Talbot College together. Deserving a medal for working alongside him for so many years, Hayley is not only our Desserts and Pastry specialist but also manages to stay on top of the dreaded paperwork – a skill seldom found in chefs!

The motley crew that makes up the rest of the team includes:

James Hallett, who also worked with Kevin and Hayley at Morgans and 698, and has once been told he’s a young Heston, a fact that is often repeated…

Adam ‘Ducky’ Harris who waddles around the kitchen busy being Kev’s Golden Boy

Ben Kerward, the wittiest member of the team who knows exactly how to press Chef Steve’s buttons!

There are, of course, a few others who do not wish to be mentioned in this blog and shall therefore remain faceless: Liam, Mark, Bernard, Chris, Ashley, Roy and Liam – you know who you are!

Winter Beauty, it’s ‘Snow’ joke!!

Well this week it’s all snow, snow and more snow!! But that hasn’t bothered any of our beauty clients. Whether it’s party glamour or beauty maintenance, it is not something that the snow can get in the way of, OH NO!! It is essential and whether our clients have had to walk, hike, ski or slide their way to us, they’ve made it!!

We also know there will be some very special gifts underneath the Christmas tree. Husbands and boyfriends have done well this year buying gift vouchers for their loved ones. A real luxurious treat and perfect Christmas surprise.

Michelle’s top tip for your beauty regime in this harsh cold weather is:

Make sure you moisturise daily, use a heavier moisturiser at night and use a gentle exfoliator once a week. Also, when inside with the heating on, keep skin well hydrated by drinking plenty of hot or cold drinks!

Merry Christmas and a Happy & Beautiful New Year

Team Member of the Month – November

Tanisha Williams team member of the month for November

It gives us great pleasure to award the prestigious Team Member of the Month award for November to the lovely Tanisha, who has elf-lessly gone above and beyond to ensure that the Hotel was trimmed up to perfection ready for Christmas!

Like a shining star she tirelessly ‘Decked the Halls’ and made sure that every tree was worthy of ‘Rockin’ around’ in preparation for the seasonal festivities and with five trees to trim it was ‘snow’ mean feat!

With all the effort she has put in whilst continuing to deliver excellent customer service and high standards it’s no surprise to learn that this year Tanisha can be found on Santa’s NICE list (and we’ve checked it twice!) and her one Christmas wish this year is to find Taylor Lauter in her stocking!!

Some interesting facts that you never knew about Tanisha:

  1. Her most favourite food is Chicken Fried Rice (Turkey for Christmas Day!)
  2. She is a big fan of the TV show Glee!
  3. Her most embarrassing moment ever was when she went to school and discovered that she was wearing odd shoes!! Talk about having two left feet or the boot being on the other foot!!
  4. She has worked at the Dragon Hotel for six and a half years and still loves her job.

Well done Tanisha and thank you for all your hard work!
