WHY SWANSEA MAKES FOR A BRILLIANT UK SHORT BREAK ON A BUDGET
As one of the areas longest serving and most loved Swansea city hotels, we adore our city and think everyone should come visit it.
However long you’re wanting to stay, holidays and weekend breaks in Swansea are an affordable staycation option for all with The Dragon Hotel. Plus, there are plenty of things to do and see on a budget; there’s never a dull moment here.
Here’s what we’d recommend for a bargain break to sunny Swansea:
MOSEY ON DOWN TO THE MUMBLES
Just a short drive away from Swansea city centre you’ll find the beautifully scenic seaside village of the Mumbles. This cosy, yet cosmopolitan, area offers quaint, independent shopping, tasty Joe’s ice cream (a Mumbles must have) and a waterfront walk that stretches for miles along the charming coast.
Enjoy a bite to eat in one of the affordable seafront cafes or grab a pint in an award-winning pub, before taking a dip in the outdoor lido or trying your hand at the arcade games on the pier.
We’d recommend hiring some bikes and taking a leisurely ride from the city centre down to the Mumbles and back in one day. With a stop to put your feet in the sand, of course.
GET AN EYEFUL OF THE GORGEOUS GOWER
Travel further east and you’ll stumble across the blue-flag wonders of the Gower Peninsula. Here you can grab your bucket and spade to hit the golden sand or throw on your walking boots for a day of exploring and adventures by the sea. And if you know where to park, it won’t cost you a thing.
Rhossili Bay, Three Cliff’s Bay and the iconic Worm’s Head will cause your jaw to drop open with their sheer natural beauty. In 1956, the Gower became the first place in Britain to be named as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so you know it must be good.
This picture perfect part of the coast is littered with castles and historic ruins, so why not take a step back in time by strolling around their grounds whilst taking in the views. The dramatic Pennard Castle looks over Three Cliff’s Bay and is the perfect spot for a picnic, whereas Oxwich Castle is a stunning Tudor mansion with panoramic views out to the sea.
GO BOAT SPOTTING IN SWANSEA BAY
Okay, so you won’t be able to afford to buy a boat on a tight budget, but it won’t hurt to dream, will it? Swansea Bay is the ideal place to explore during an early evening. Watch the sun set over the water, admire the many yachts moored here and then enjoy some 2 for 1 cocktails in one of the many waterfront bars.
BECOME A WINO ON WIND STREET
Wind Street is famous for its brilliant bars, crazy cool clubs and yes, bargain drinks deals. So, if you’re a bit of a party animal and want to get your dancing shoes on, this is the place to be on a Saturday night.
All the best bars and clubs can be found on this long street, along with a number of eateries and other food shops should you want a midnight feast. Just don’t forget your ID!
BAG A BARGAIN BITE TO EAT IN SWANSEA MARKET
Swansea is home to Wales’ largest indoor market which sells everything from cheap make-up and toiletries to second hand jewellery, fresh fruit and vegetables to delicious smelling baked goods.
Located smack bang in the city centre, it’s well worth exploring. And especially so if you’re looking for a cheap meal as it has many reasonable priced eateries.
Or if you’d prefer something a little posher, why not opt for our Piano Restaurant Dining Offer? At £19.95 you can enjoy a three course table d’hote menu for the price of 2 dishes and on a Friday or Saturday you’ll experience live music entertainment when dining.
